Question:
How does it work?

Answer:
As the Enviropeel is sprayed on it releases highly effective corrosion inhibitors which penetrate into every crevice and between joint surfaces. The material quickly builds into a protective cocoon around the target area, sealing it from its environment and providing complete protection.

Question:
Does it provide corrosion control for the life of the system?

Answer:
Yes but system life for an installation will depend on film thickness and exposure. Periodic visual checks should be made to check for damage. ASTM tests show successful protection can be in the harshest conditions. Built-in corrosion inhibitors make it especially effective against galvanic corrosion.

Question:
Does it use environmentally sensitive components?

Answer:
Not only are its components environmentally safe but, as it is entirely re-useable, it creates no waste. It can be landfilled or incinerated. Enviropeel contains no solvents.

Question:
Is Enviropeel harmful?

Answer:
Enviropeel is not classified as harmful or toxic.

Question:
Does application require special protective safety wear?

Answer:
There are no special PPE requirements. Normal safety items are recommended - safety helmet, eye protection, long welders’ gloves, safety shoes and coveralls. Provide adequate general and local exhaust ventilation. Respiratory protection not be required for material at ambient temperatures or for short-term exposure to heated vapours in well-ventilated areas. When vapour or mist is generated by heating or handling, use an organic vapour respirator with a dust and mist filter. All respirators must be certified to NIOSH or equivalent standards.

Is it cost effective and how much maintenance does it require?

Answer:
Savings of up to 85% over current systems, with no maintenance requirements other than visual checks for damage. Re-useable material requires minimal stockholding and no waste disposal costs.

Question:
Is it inspectable?

Answer:
It is so easy to remove and re-apply Enviropeel that periodic maintenance or use of a component is simple and practical. The Slugger 170 was introduced to facilitate inspection and repair.

Question:
What surface preparation is required, does it need a primer?

Answer:
Minimal surface prep. is required. For existing corroded substrates a wire brush preparation is sufficient, in order to remove loose flaking rust or paint particles. On new surfaces a primer may be preferred (depending on client specification) but is not essential.

What are the power requirements?

Answer:
EU spec: 400/440v, 3-phase neutral and earth, 50Hz
US spec: 208 volt, 3-phase, 60Hz

Question:
What special training is required?

Answer:
Training of personnel is essential. Enviropeel requires the use of licensed applicators.

Question:
What are the maximum and minimum substrate temperatures on which Enviropeel can be sprayed?

Answer:
Maximum substrate temp for E170 should be 80°C.
Minimum substrate temp varies according to surface - as long as it is dry, Enviropeel can be applied. Enviropeel has passed a 110cm diameter bend test at -15°C with no film defects.

Question:
Can Enviropeel be applied to a wet surface?

Answer:
Enviropeel cannot be applied to wet surfaces. The substrate must be blown dry prior to application.

Question:
What about re-use, can contaminated material be used?

Answer:
Where contamination is not severe, filters within the heating unit allow re-use. Heavily contaminated material should not be entered into the application unit but may be re-used in a melting tank depending on the severity and nature of the contamination. Always mix re-used material with new material.

Question:
Can the material be applied to underground piping?

Answer:
Yes. Care must be taken when backfilling to prevent damage to the coating.

Question:
What cleaning does the applicator require after each use?


Answer:
None. After use the machine can be switched off, allowing the thermoplastic material to cool within the delivery system. When the unit is required again it simply has to be turned on. As the entire system, from heater to spray tip, is heated, the material re-melts and can be used again once it reaches its operating temperature. Cleaning of the tank and filter system is periodically required as part of the normal maintenance programme.

Question:
Does Enviropeel withstand UV?


Answer:
Yes. It has been tested to ASTM G53-96 and has achieved excellent results. No cracking or flaking with a slight surface colour change. Use in high temperature, high UV areas may result in surface effects but will not affect corrosion protection.

Question:
Can the material bond to itself when a local repair is required?

Answer:
Yes. Enviropeel will bond to itself after application.

Question:
Can it withstand chemicals?

Answer:
This depends on the chemical and the conditions. Enviropeel is not designed as a chemical resistant coating, however, the coating has excellent resistance to splash contact from caustic soda solutions, for example, and acidic vapours. For a complete answer we would require specific details of type, concentration and temperature.

What is the capacity of the heating unit?

Answer:
The standard unit holds up to 18 kilos of material depending on the specification. In use, a constant rate of application can be maintained by topping up heating tank as it is used. Units up to 30 kilos are available.

How is the material supplied?

Answer:
Chipped and packed in recyclable plastic containers

Question:
Is the applicator unit mobile?

Answer:
The unit is mobile with four wheels for easy manoeuvring. A hand-held unit, the Slugger 170 is also available for repairs and small applications.


Question:
What does it weigh?

Answer:
The standard unit weighs 250 kilos.

Question:
How long is the hose?

Answer:
The standard hose is 10 metres long. Hose lengths up to 19 metres can be supplied to order.

Question:
Is the unit intrinsically safe?

Answer:
The standard unit has many safety features, in-built computer controlled overheating cut-outs and tamper proof computer settings. An optional Zone 2 version, DNV certified for use in Zone 2 with ATEX certified gas detector, automatic shutdown and explosion proof electrics is available. An ATEX rated hose and spray gun, up to 19 metres in length, is also available.

Question:
Can the coating be over-painted?

Answer:
It is not recommended. The material can be coloured to a customer's specification, making over-painting unnecessary.


Question:
What colours are available?

Answer:
The basic material is grey; it is available in six colours - red, grey, yellow, blue, green and white. It can also be tinted to match specific paint codes, depending on quantities required.

Question:
What is the material's dielectric strength?

Answer:
Its dielectric strength, as measured by an Elcometer 105 DC holiday detector, is 40KV/mm.


Question:
Is it possible to use a holiday detector to locate pinholes?

Answer:
Yes, Enviropeel can be examined by a holiday detector.

Question:
Can Enviropeel be submerged in seawater after application?


Answer:
Yes, Enviropeel is resistant to seawater.


Question:
How many times can the material be remelted?


Answer:
In tests the material has been re-used up to 100 times. In practice we would recommend a maximum of between 7 and 10 times.


Question:
Is the vapour from the heated Enviropeel harmful?


Answer:
The vapours are not toxic. Common sense dictates that use within confined areas without ventilation should be avoided. In such cases a suitable respirator should be used (see MSDS sheet). The thermoplastic is a non-toxic compound. It is very stable and does not contain VOCs or heavy metals, such as lead.


Question:
Can Enviropeel be used near food or in food preparation environments?


Answer:
Atomisation of the material during application extends beyond the immediate application area and it should therefore be isolated from edible food products. Once applied, contact with food products must be avoided but otherwise the material should present no hazard.


Question:
How quickly can coated items be ready for use?


Answer:
Enviropeel cools rapidly and should be safe to touch after about a minute.

Question:
What is the application temperature?


Answer:
E170 is applied at up to 170°C


Question:
Is it flammable?


Answer:
Enviropeel is classed as non-flammable but does become combustible above 200°C. Under normal circumstances ignition of Enviropeel is only possible with a naked flame.

Weld spatter will not cause Enviropeel to ignite.

Tests have shown that a properly coated flange will not be susceptible to ignition even if passed through a propane flame. Sustained application of the flame in order to bring the surface temperature to its ignition point is required. Once ignited, surface spread is slow and easily extinguished by sprinkler systems.

Question:
How do expansion and movement in pipework and other protected structures affect Enviropeel?


Answer:
Because Enviropeel is very flexible, it will expand with the joint and contract without damage. As the substrates move, inhibitors released by Enviropeel will flow between the moving surfaces.


Question:
What is the material's elongation factor.


Answer:
Enviropeel has an excellent elongation factor of 75-80%
